12/03/2008 Agenda & Attendance

All are in attendance for today.
That being said, we will move on with our agenda.

Agenda

We have focused our energy and ideas into a single day for fund-raising.
Our decision has led us to just one bake sale.
This bake sale is going to be on campus by the library on Wednesday, December 10th.
We will set up shop around 8:30 a.m.
Hopefully, if all goes to plan the bake sale will end at 2 p.m.
We are ecstatic that Gayle's will be giving us substantial donations the evening before!
Thank you Gayle's for your generosity!

Logistics

Samantha will be baking apple pie and rice krispy treats!
Katrina will make pumpkin bread, and a couple of batches of cookies!
Look out folks, Peter is going to give baking brownies a first! Good luck Peter!
Don't worry, if they turn out like bricks- will call them biscotti instead!

So, the bake sale day will be broken down as such:
The table will be monitored in shifts.

Shifts:
8:30-11a.m. Katrina will help out until 9 a.m. and Peter, Scott, and Sam will manage the table.
11 a.m.-12p.m. Katrina will manage the table.
12-2 p.m. Vince and Peter will manage the table, hopefully around the close of 2 p.m. all will come over to help clean up!

Today class got out early. A lot of our classmates were gone, most likely because of Thanksgiving. The minute class started, we were packing up to leave. Out team however stayed for an extra half hour discussing our master plan behind our bake sale coming up. We each decided to go to a bakery and see if we can manage to get donations for our event. We also planned who's bring what to our sale.
Agenda
We decided to do our first sale Sunday Dec. 7th at the Live Oak Farmers Market just outside of the actual market itself to avoid being forced to move elsewhere.
Our second bake sale will be on the campus quad, which will occur on December 8th or 10th, we will clear up the confusion this week. If it happens to rain on the campus bake sale days, we will move under the library, under one of the over-hangs. This should still be a good spot since there's usually a lot of traffic coming through here.

Local Bakeries
Vince---> will contact his local donut shop for donations
Katrina-> will contact her local bakery-Original Sin for donations
Peter----> will see if Gayle's might be kind enough to offer donations
Scott----> will contact Heather's Bakery in hopes of generosity from them as well

Assignments

Vince is responsible for finding a fold out table for the Live Oak bakesale.
Peter will supply a tablecloth.
Katrina and Sam will divide up the baked goods based on wednesday's meeting how much of what..
Baked Goods will be: Apple Pie (1 or 2), Banana or Pumpkin Bread (1 or 2 of each), Cookies (each will make a batch), and possibly rice krispy treats
Oh and Peter is going to give boxed brownies a shot!!

Attendance
We were all present today except for Sam who was gone for the holidays back home. We missed her very much but she deserved a break from the team. Until next week... Happy Thanksgiving....

See you Wednesday crew!!

Tips and Advice to a Successful Bakesale

Hi Team-
I thought I should post this.
Some of this information is logical or obvious, but I think we would all benefit from this quick read, as we plan today the logistics of our bake sale.
Enjoy!

Bake Sales

Profitable Fund Raisers

By Carroll Pellegrinelli, About.com

Serve as a buffet dessert or wrap individual pieces to sell at a bake sale.
Bake sales have long been one of the most popular ways of raising funds for schools, religious organizations and social clubs. They can be great moneymakers because there is little or no actual capital required. All of the baked goods are usually donated. Bake sales are also known community social events. People enjoy getting together over a common goal. Whether it’s the people behind or in front of the table, they just love to mix and mingle at a bake sale. Here are several points to hosting a successful bake sale for your organization.

Select a leader. It should be someone who has excellent organizational skills. The person should also be able to delegate responsibilities, which is extremely essential to a well run sale.

Volunteers are imperative. The bake sale leader will need several people dedicated to organizing donations, handling publicity, setting-up tables and/or the booth, selling goods, collecting money and clean up.

Donations are the key. Be sure to be specific in what baked goods will be needed for the sale straight from the start. As to not end up with all “chocolate cakes", make sure you know what is being donated. Pass out individual sign-up sheets with a list of the needed items. Ask for a first and second choice of what is being donated. Get names and phone numbers so that the person can be contacted to remind them of their donation and to specify which baked good is needed. Be specific on how you want the goods packaged. Some states have health codes stating that everything must be individually wrapped. Also, each baked good donated should have an index card prominently attached that has the name of the dish and a list of non-obvious and/or outstanding ingredients (such as coconut, nuts, candied or dried fruits or strawberries).

Timing and location are important. Try to place your table and/or booth in a high traffic area. To guarantee a heavy traffic flow, plan the sale around other coordinating events. For school affiliated bake sales, sporting events and theater productions would be the perfect time to host a bake sale. Local craft shows may allow free booth space for a worthy cause.

Presentation is everything. Set out nicely decorated and organized tables. Use tablecloths, but not in overpowering patterns. The baked goods should be your best decorations. Divide the baked goods according to type (cookies, cakes) and/or serving size (whole cakes, individual cookies). If you have several tables, separate them into just pies, cakes or even one just for chocolate goods.

Know your customers. Are you selling to big families? Sell cookies by the dozen and entire cakes. Sales to children or singles will be higher with individual packages of baked goods such as one brownie or one cupcake.

Think beyond baked goods. Serve coffee at bake sales in the evenings or on cold days. Selling cold bottled water or lemonade along with the baked goods at a football game would increase profits. If sales are slow have hourly specials. Group certain goods together for special pricing. Get recipes for all of the baked goods prior to the sale. Anyone with word processing knowledge could prepare a small, inexpensive cookbook for sale. Prior to the winter holidays, don’t be limited to the typical bake sale. Try to coordinate donations of specially packaged baked goods that the buyer could in turn give away as gifts. Offering cookie ingredients or homemade granola in decorated jars would be the perfect sale for that time of year.

The Bestseller List.
Banana and Pumpkin Breads
Brownies, such as Mint
Candy, such as Buckeyes
Sweet Popcorn, such as Amaretto Caramel Corn
Chocolate Cake, such as Chocolate Celebration Cake
Cookies, such as Ginger Crackles
Cupcakes, such as Chocolate Surprise
Muffins, such as Cinnamon-Pecan
Pies

Weekly Agenda- for the coming 11/24-11/26/08 week

The Plan

Now that presentations are over we are focusing in on how we are going to go about doing our bake sale. We really want to be successful at this bake sale by earning big bucks!
I guess that is just the competitive "Stride" in us. :)
Here is the agenda, which is based off of last week's meeting notes.

  • First, we feel that a table at the Live Oak farmer's market might be the ticket to gathering substantial funds.
  • We are pondering that tight wallets due to the economy will make gathering charity more complicated for us students this semester, and what might be some good strategies in "marketing" our table to overcome this nervousness.
  • Next is just delegating and determining the logistics of our final plan.
  • I.E., getting a collapsible table, napkins, plates, making high quality baked goods, buying the materials, picking a weekend with good weather that works for all/most members.
  • Samantha and Katrina will probably split up the baking, which will reduce the load of baking by having two talented cooks with two separate ovens!
  • We are also looking into possible donations from local bakeries to cut down costs, and extra work loads.
If you have any ideas or tips for Team Stride then please feel free to email us @ Teamstride@gmail.com
Thank you!

First off, we would like to apologize for not having updated our blog this past week. This past week was hectic! We held our presentation last Wednesday, and we did very well. Peter was unable to make it due to a car accident! But Peter is just fine, and our presentation came out great anyhow.
I think this demonstrates our great team synergy! :P

Attendance
Despite a little drama the week of the presentation, this past week, we were all in attendance! Yee-hah!

This last week in class Team Stride decided to all go out to lunch together on Wednesday. I am happy to report that we were all there with bells on so to speak. We ate lovely sandwiches at a place in Soquel called D'Anna'a behind the Golden Buddha Restaurant. A little free advertising, their sandwiches are fabulous!!!! We practiced our speaking parts out loud as a group and we rehearsed out skit. We are looking forward to our presentation this coming Wednedsay on the 12th.

This week with Team Stride

This week we were all in class and still reeling from our egg victory last week. We took that positive synergy and applied it to a poster for our team. We brainstormed and cam up with a design that we felt fit our teams goals. We are making bonds, creating community, having good times, eliminating B.S., and taking strides to the future!

We also defined our assignments for this week in regards to preparing for the upcoming presentation. We are each coming up with three questions for the class to answer, and we are writing out our own speaking parts.

We plan on meeting out side of class this week so that we can further discuss what we have come up with. We felt that the one way that our team could improve would be to communicate more out of class. To get that ball rolling Samantha has saved all of the groups numbers into her phone and will call all of us this week to make sure that all is well. Peter has a cold and we all hope that he is doing well very soon. He is such a trooper and even though he was sick he still came to class! We ROCK!!!
